HAZARD PERCEPTION & THEROY TEST

As you work towards your practical driving test you must pass the hazard perception and theroy test. This consists of two seperate tests which you must pass both at the same time, if you pass one and fail the other this means you have failed the test and you have to resit both again in order to apply for your practical test.

First test you will sit is the theroy test. This consists of 50 random questions that cover :-

  • Alertness
  • Attitude
  • Safety and Your Vehicle
  • Safety Margins
  • Hazard Awareness
  • Vulnerable Road Users
  • Other Types of Vechicle
  • Vehicle Handling
  • Motorway Rules
  • Rules of the Road
  • Road and Traffic Signs
  • Documents
  • Accidents
  • Vehicle Loading

You need to get 43 questions correct to pass this part.

Second of the two tests is the hazard perception. This consists of 14 video clips with 15 hazards, one of these will be a double score clip. The scoring points system starts with 5 been the highest score and 1 been the lowest, if you click on the hazard too soon or too late you will not be scored. While doing the hazard perception test you must make sure you DO NOT constantly click the cursor as this will result in a cross on the screen saying you will not be scored for that clip.

The pass mark for hazard perception is 44 marks out of 75.

EYE SIGHT REQUIREMENTS

The eye sight requirements for the practical driving test is as follows:-

  • 20.5 Metres ........... (67ft)
  • 20.0 Metres ........... (66ft) NEW STYLE PLATES

These are the distances you are required to read a number plate from, if you wear glasses or contact lenses for driving you MUST wear them at all times while driving. The examiner will not continue the test if you fail to read the number plates at the required distance, this will also lead to failing the test and your fee will be lost.
